Arizona House Approves Right to Concealed Carry Near Schools

school zone arizona concealed carry

Since Arizona passed constitutional carry legislation that allows citizens to carry concealed without a permit, the gun rights community has been frustrated by laws that prevent one from carry concealed on or near a school property even when on a public street or public rights of way.

Rep. Kelly Townsend, R-Mesa, sponsored the bill that would ensure residents could carry concealed weapons on or near school grounds as long as it’s on a public street, sidewalk, path or alley maintained by a state or local government.

This still needs to go through the rest of the legislative process but this is one law we will be watching closely.

It’s about time there is some reasonable advances towards responsible, law abiding carry of concealed weapons near and around schools. Just in observation, any reasonable person can see that over the last few decades fanatical, mentally off balance individuals choose target rich environments where armed resistance or opposition isn’t present like school or shopping centers. This offers a criminal a variety of targets that can offer no resistance. They get redefined at that moment. Instead of being individuals and students, citizens with purpose, intent, and a future they become victims. Across the U.S. there is an undertow of children, teens and even adults thinking and vocalizing thoughts and ideas in opposition of firearms and “gun violence “….What they don’t consider is if they’re successful in taking firearms away or restrict them further., the weapons will change…axes, machetes. The violence won’t stop. The tools will. The violence is a reflection of our society. Just as a matter of perspective, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 2016 data shows 37,461 people were killed in 34,436 motor vehicle crashes, an average of 102 per day. Those numbers are higher than deaths by people wielding a firearm. … Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that on an average day, 96 Americans are killed with guns. Shouldn’t we all get on board and rid ourselves of the greater evil first? All those dangerous vehicles out there rolling aroud! ?We need legally armed CCW citizens close to school. We don’t need to punish them for being there. That would definitely deter things like Columbine from happening.
